Application Procedure

GIS Certificate students can be admitted Fall, Winter and Spring terms.

In order to be admitted to the certificate program you must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.(If your GPA is between 2.75-3.0. You can be admitted conditionally) Current PSU graduate students must be in good academic standing.

 

The (new 2009) application process is a two-part process and applicants must submit two different packets; one to the Admissions Office and one to the Geography Department.  The admissions process will be delayed if either packet is incomplete.

Packet 1- Send directly to:          Office of Admissions and Records

  • 1- University application form *
  • 2- Application fee, as indicated on the University application form.  The fee is good for one year and is non-refundable.  Do not send cash.
  • 3- One official transcript (in its unopened envelope) from every college or university attended (except PSU), including junior colleges and community colleges.

 

*If you are currently enrolled in a PSU graduate program, submit a GO-19M) in place of the University application form.  http://www.gsr.pdx.edu/forms/go-19m.pdf

 

Packet 2- Send directly to:          GIS Certificate Coordinator
                                                    Geography Department
                                                    Portland State University
                                                    Portland, OR 97207-0751

  • 1- Departmental application form
  • 2- Unofficial transcripts from every college or university attended, including junior colleges and community colleges.
  • 3- One page letter of interest/intent saying why you are you pursuing the GIS Certificate Program.

 

Note: If you do not register for the term to which you are admitted, your admission will be canceled unless you notify the office of admissions and the geography department prior to the beginning of that term. You may defer up to 3 terms, using the grad update form
